It was an action-packed Wednesday night in the NBA as all but six teams took to the hardwood. Once again there were notable performances from African talent with Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the Bucks to victory with a double-double in Milwaukee and Joel Embiid doing the same for the Sixers in Philly.
Bucs trample Pacers
A 31-point, 10-rebound double-double from Nigerian-Greek forward Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to a 122-101 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Khris Middleton had 27 points, Malcolm Brogdon had 17 with five assists, while South Sudanese-Australian forward Thon Makers finished with 12 points and four rebounds.
Domantas Sabonis led Indiana with 24 points, Darren Collison had 17, Lance Stephenson had 15, seven rebounds and five assists, Bojan Bogdanovic had 13, and Cory Joseph ended the game with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Sixers outdo Spurs
The Philadelphia 76ers beat the San Antonio Spurs 112-106 on the back of rookie Ben Simmons’ 26 points, five rebounds and four assists, Cameroonian center Joel Embiid had 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, and JJ Redick had 20 points and four assists.
San Antonio was led by Patty Mills with 26 points, LaMarcus Aldridge had a 24-point, 14-rebound double-double, Bryn Forbes had 15 points, Kyle Anderson had 14 points and seven rebounds, while Davis Bertans finished the game with 13 points and five rebounds.
Thunder strikes Lakers
A new signature shoe helped Russell Westbrook led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 133-96 win over the Los Angeles Lakers with a 20-point, 12-assist double-double, Paul George and Terrence Ferguson combined for 48 with 24 points each, and Carmelo Anthony finished the night with 21 points and six rebounds.
Rookie Kyle Kuzma led Los Angeles with 18 points, Kentavious Coldwell-Pope had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, Jordan Clarkson had 11 points, while Corey Brewer and Brook Lopez combined for 20 with 10 points apiece.
Pelicans down Jazz
The New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Utah Jazz 108-98 on the back of Anthony Davis’ 29-point, 15-rebound double-double, Jrue Holiday had 24 points, six rebounds and five assists, and DeMarcus Cousins ended the game with a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Utah was led by rookie Donovan Mitchell with 24 points, Joe Johnson had 20 points and seven rebounds, Derrick Favors had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Ricky Rubio also had 11 points, seven assists and four steals.
The Rest
The Boston Celtics got even with the Cleveland Cavaliers – beating them 102-88, a 32-point game from Stephen Curry saw the Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks 125-122, the Houston Rockets defeated the Orlando Magic 116-98, the Washington Wizards got a 121-103 victory over the New York Knicks on the back of Bradley Beal’s 27 points, DeMar DeRozan led the Toronto Raptors to a 124-115 win over the Chicago Bulls with 25 points, the Brooklyn nets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-97, the Miami Heat defeated the Detroit Pistons 111-104, and Gary Harris’ 36 points helped the Denver Nuggets beat the Phoenix Suns 134-111.
